Buxa–Dooars
Why Buxa–Dooars
The Dooars are the plains and foothills below Bhutan, in northern West Bengal. Tea gardens stretch for miles, broken up by forest and rivers coming down from the hills. Buxa Tiger Reserve covers much of this forest, and up in the hills is the old Buxa Fort, once a prison for India's freedom fighters. We picked it for a retreat on wilderness and tea economics: how a tea estate runs, what it costs, who earns what, and what the forest around it asks of the people who live there.
For founders working on unit economics, labour, or businesses tied to land and nature.
