Majuli
Why Majuli
Majuli is a river island in the Brahmaputra in Assam, one of the largest in the world. It is the centre of Assam's satras, Vaishnavite monasteries where mask-making, dance and music have been kept alive for centuries. The island is also shrinking. Floods and erosion take land every year, and families rebuild again and again. We picked it for a retreat on resilience: how people keep going, and keep their culture, when the ground under them keeps changing.
For founders who have been through a setback, a pivot, or a hard year.
What you'll do there
- Cross the Brahmaputra by ferry to the island
- Visit a satra and see traditional mask-making
- Meet Mising villages living with the river
- A session on staying the course after a setback
