Mithila (Darbhanga–Madhubani)
Why Mithila (Darbhanga–Madhubani)
Mithila is the region around Darbhanga and Madhubani in north Bihar. It is known across the world for Madhubani painting, once done on the walls of village homes and now sold in galleries and online. It is also the home of makhana (fox nut), which has gone from a local food to a snack brand you see in city supermarkets. We picked it for a retreat on craft, brand and the creator economy. Here you can meet artists and producers working out how to price, sell and tell their story without losing what makes the work theirs.
For founders building a brand, selling online, or working with makers and creators.
What you'll do there
- Visit Madhubani painters in their homes and studios
- See how makhana is harvested and processed
- Walk through the old Darbhanga Raj buildings
- A session on pricing, branding and selling a craft product
