What to pack for a forest retreat in Bihar
A practical list for three days at Valmiki Nagar in late November: cold mornings, a jeep safari and a weak phone signal.

Our first retreat is in a forest on the Nepal border in late November. It is not a hotel weekend, so here is a short list of what to bring. Keep it to one bag; we travel together in one vehicle.
Clothes
- A warm layer. Days are mild in winter, but mornings and nights are cold. The state tourism department lists lows of around 8°C.
- Earth-coloured clothes for the safari. Greens, browns and greys. Bright colours and white are best left at home.
- Closed walking shoes. Forest paths, river banks and village lanes. Sandals are fine for the stay, not for walking.
- A cap or hat for the afternoon sun.
Documents
- A government photo ID. We arrange the forest entry and safari permits; you only need to carry your ID.
- Your ticket to Patna and back, if you are coming from outside Bihar.
Phone and power
- Expect a weak signal. Inside the forest there is often none. Tell your team and family you will be slow to reply.
- Download offline maps and anything you need to read before you leave Patna.
- A power bank and a torch. Power cuts happen, and paths are dark at night.
For the sessions
- A notebook and two pens. Sessions are laptop-free, and the 90-day plan is written by hand.
- One question you want the group's help with. The more specific, the better.
Health
- Any regular medicines, enough for the three days and a spare day.
- Mosquito repellent.
- Tell us about allergies or food needs when you join, so the stay can plan meals.
We will send a final list on WhatsApp a week before the retreat, with the pickup point and timings. Not on the list yet? Join the waitlist.
